What Is A Veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin shell that covers the front of a tooth, covering up cosmetic concerns and adding a protective layer to damaged enamel. They are commonly made of porcelain, matching the natural color and translucency of teeth, but may also be made of composite resin.

Veneers are customized to your teeth, ensuring the best fit and appearance.

Veneers Procedure

First, a small amount of enamel must be removed from the front of the tooth to make sure the veneer will fit properly. This is usually less than half a millimeter of material. Impressions of your teeth will be made, and a custom made veneer will be crafted for you. Before it is bonded to your tooth, it will be tried on and trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. The color can be adjusted before application using dental cement. Once you and Dr. Mashkouri are satisfied, the veneer is permanently bonded to the surface of the tooth.

For some patients, building up a resin veneer may be a better option. These typically require less tooth material be removed, but are less resistant to staining than porcelain veneers.
