The Bonding Process

Cosmetic bonding involves the application of tooth-colored composite resin to a tooth. This is an easy, fast, and inexpensive way to restore your teeth to their full beauty and health.
How it Works
Cosmetic bonding is a versatile process that can be used in a wide range of procedures. Some of these include:

- To protect a tooth’s root if the gum recedes

- To change the appearance of discolored teeth

Cosmetic bonding can replace metal amalgam fillings, which can improve the appearance of your teeth and reduces the amount of heavy metals like mercury in your mouth. The resin can be built up in layers as an alternative to porcelain veneers. This procedure can be completed in a single visit, rather than the two that are usually required for veneers.
Dr. Mashkouri will discuss your treatment options with you during a consultation. If composite bonding is a suitable choice, a resin that matches the color of your teeth will be selected for the most natural looking repairs. Unless a filling is being performed, anesthesia is usually not necessary. The surface of the tooth being treated will be roughened to help the resin adhere to it properly. The resin will be placed, shaped, and smoothed, and a special light will be used to cure it. Once it has hardened, it will be further shaped to match as closely as possible with your natural tooth, and polished to the same shine.
